Turned my system on today and video but no sound. FLASH UPD constantly scrolling across 975 display. Is this some kind of fatal error? No idea what to do as not really sure what happened to other posters with this problem.

Any help appreciated.

Since I never had the need for it before, today I updated my 975 to software version 5.3 to see if that would resolve my FLASH UPD issue. The 975 verifies that it is now at version 5.3. Unfortunately, still no audio.

I am able to get the 975's OSD display on my TV and have returned all settings to the way they were before the software update.

I initially got no video through the 975, but that seems to have revolved itself.

I get no sound from any source on my 975 - tuner, cable, etc. I am able to see video on my TV (and can watch HD OTA on the TV and hear it using TV speakers, but of course the 975 is completely out of that loop).

The 975 constantly scrolls FLASH UPD. When I change input sources it scrolls FLASH UPDATE START, but then returns to FLASH UPD.

Is my 975 toast? Any help appreciated.

Regards, Jim

I suggest you unplug your 975 for a couple of hours to see if it will reset. My display was doing some really odd things a few months ago and a tech I called suggested unplugging it. I guess doing so let some of the capacitors discharge. If it doesn't fix the problem then I'd call Outlaw Customer Service. It has been a while since I had to use Customer Service but they were terrific.

Thanks AvFan. Unplugged the 975 for 4 hours and unfortunately same FLASH UPD when I tried it again. I'll call customer service tomorrow.

Its unfortunate it didn't work but at least it didn't cost anything! Hopefully a fix is no more than something Outlaw can do with the software. Let us know how it works out.

There are several threads that describe this issue. Unfortunately Outlaw has to fix it. At least one person had to send it back to Outlaw for a repair. Not sure what causes the problem but call them ASAP Monday.

I spoke with Outlaw tech support. Tried a hard reset, but that did not solve the FLASH UPD issue. The 975 will be going back for a warranty repair.

Since the 975 went down, I've had to listen to audio over the TV speakers. Wow is that bad. Really makes me appreciate my 975 7025 combo.

Cheers, Jim
