Will the 7075 Have Enough Power?

Will the 7075 Have Enough Power? - 01/11/07 02:25 PM

I'm considering expanding my 5.1 system to 7.1 and using the 7075 for my surround speakers and center channel. However, I'm wondering if the 7075 amp has enough power for the speakers: the surrounds are 6 ohm / 86dB; the center is 6 ohm / 88dB; and the rear surrounds are 6 ohm / 88dB. I think the 7075 is supposed to be a high current design, so I am hoping it works. I'm also thinking the 6 ohm load may be upping the WPC output to >70 WPC. Also note, I sometimes like my movie playback levels on the loud side.

The lower impedance will increase the power output, and the 7075 is rated stable at 4 ohms in the specs so it'll clearly drive 6 ohms without breaking a sweat. If I had to guess, I'd expect the amp to offer close to 90W or even a bit more at 6 ohms (it'll do 115W at 4 ohms). The side and rear surrounds should be more than happy with that, and even the center (which is a pretty important speaker in a surround setup) ought to be pretty comfortable with it.

I thought I'd post for those maybe 'on the fence' about the 7075's power output. I've had the 7075 for about a month now. I have a room that's about 12' 6" by 13' 6". I'm using Sierra 1's across the front (about 87 db sensitivity). The 7075 provides all the power I need in my room. Depending on the source, -15 on the 990's volume control is about as loud as I want to go. I was concerned that 75 wpc wasn't going to do it for me, but I've been pleasantly surprised. For anyone with a similar sized room, I would think it would be more than adequate...YMMV though.
