Please help with setup questions on 1070 - 04/06/06 07:59 PM

Good evening. I'm ready to buy a 1070 to replace my Denon AVR-2105. Here's my questions on how I would like to set it up and would like to know if anyone knows if this will work.

I would run my DVD player into the DVI 1 connection. The sound would to digital 1 (either coax or optical). My cable box going to DVI 2 and the sound to digital 2 (either coax or optical). My Xbox 360 will got to component in Video 1, with sound to digital 3.

My questions are:

1. I also have a Sony DVD Jukebox. If I plug this into the DVD component video, can I plug sound into one of the open digital ins?

I guess what I'm asking is are all video inputs and digital audio inputs "active"? In other words, can you plug into coax 1 and optical 1 and get sound from the corresponding devices? If I have my DVD player in DVI 1 using optical 1, can I plug my DVD Jukebox in the DVD component inputs and then into Coax 1 and when I watch that have it work?

I hope this makes sense to everyone. This is what is holding me back from ordering... knowing if this type of set up will work.

Also, do you feel the 1070 is a good upgrade from a Denon AVR-2105.

Thanks for the help. I really am looking forward to becoming an Outlaw!!!!

As I understand it, you want to try to use both the component and DVI video connections of the DVD input for different components. I think that is possible (you'd want to set the DVD input's video to component), but you may have to turn off the DVI source to get the component input. The setup for that input is going to want to have a single digital input assigned to it (specified as coax 1, 2, or 3 or optical 1, 2, or 3 - assuming you won't be using one of the front digital inputs). That means the sound from the second source (the Sony jukebox) wouldn't be active at the DVD input. One trick that could work for what you are trying to do (speaking as someone who doesn't have a 1070 or 970, so I can't try it)... I'm going to assume that you'll use coaxial from the DVD player and optical from the jukebox. Connect the audio from the DVD player to coaxial1 and the audio from the jukebox to optical1. Assign coaxial1 to the DVD input and optical1 to the AUX input (an audio-only input). If you switch to the DVD input, the 1070 will make the DVD video input active (which means the video switching will start using the DVD video source). If you then switched to the AUX input, the video would stay with the DVD and the audio would come from AUX. It's a little quirky and I can't try it out, but it has potential. I suspect that the 1070 would be a very rewarding upgrade from a Denon 2105.

I own a Denon 3805.I put that in my living room and purchased a 1070 for my Den. I am more then impressed. Had a few setup problems that made me scratch my head and wonder if I was correct in buying an Outlaw product...but...after figuring out the problems I am glad I did. I would highly recomend the 1070 as a replcement to the 2105. It sounds better then my 3805

What about a Yamaha Rx-V2600? Can get one for the same price as the Outlaw.. Would you recommend the Outlaw over the 2600 too?

Thanks.

If you haven't seen it already, doug917's shootout might interest you.

Nice comparison!

I guess my main concern is that I'll be able to connect everything I want to the 1070 and not have to "jump through hoops" to get it to work.
