What receiver do you have now? Also, what speakers are you using?

I started my upgrade process about five years ago by replacing a Yamaha Pro Logic receiver with an Outlaw 1050. The Yamaha was rated at around 90W compared to the 1050's 65W (a rating which was with three channels driven, not the full seven channels of the 1070), and the 1050 was noticeably better. I even drove Paradigm Reference Studio/60's with the 1050, and those are speakers that like to have some power behind them to sound their best.

Tomcat,
If the only thing holding you back is the power output, then I wouldn't be overly concerned. As gonk asked, what is your current receiver? Additionally, what speakers are your driving?

A few years ago, I had a Sony ES (read: flagship)reciever rated for 100 WPC. I upgraded to an Arcam with 70 WPC. It made the Sony sound pitiful. There was no comparision. I'm now a proud owner of a 1070. The Outlaw is comparable if not better to the Arcam in all areas important to me.

I listen to more music than watch movies. I enjoy listening at high levels with excellent fidelity. I won't have it any other way. I bought the 1070 mainly to take advantage of the 7.1 analog input for SCAD and DVD-A. I'm not extremely satisfied with the performance. Buy the 1070; you won't be disappointed.

I meant to write that "I am extremely satisfied with the performance... of the Outlaw."
