Anyone do the 5 or 7 M-Block set up? - 01/02/05 12:00 PM

Has anyone tried the M-Block set-up with 5 or 7 amps instead of a 755 or 770? Sorry for all the questions but with the ordering site down and me with time on my hands...well..."I gotta stop thinkin'."
Do the Outlaws still offer bonus unit orfree shipping with 5 or 7 amps or have I been following so many links in the past week that I linked to some old "news."
Howcum when "news is "old" we don't call it "old?"
"Daddy, why is the sky blue?" (Oh wait a minnit...I know that one... :p )
Thanks,
Bill

Several folks have done this - Mike Knapp at Home Theater Talk has 9 M200's for his seven speakers and his subwoofer, ScottH and AstorPiazzola have 7 of them each, musiciseverything has 5.

There are a bunch of threads that you might like skimming through: Newbie question 200 vs 770? , 5x200s or a 755? , M200 or 7100 , and M200\'s or 770 . That's a bunch of threads - the bottom line of them tends to be that monoblocks offer some potential benefits but they take up more space and require more power cabling. Outlaw's multichannel amps share a single power supply (typically with two transformers) between the amp channels, unlike the separate power supplies for each channel in a monoblock arrangement, but there's reportedly not a sonic difference between the 200's and the 755 or 770. If you are planning to use Klipsch speakers and are looking at the 7100, you would not be likely to need to additional power offered by M200's or the 770/755. Five M200's are $1124 plus shipping. Seven M200's are $1674.

So... why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways?

...again...THANKS...that answers that question for me...I forgot about the sub and just realized the connector problem...I must have been looking at an old link that had free shipping on the separate amps if you bought 7 getting the 7th free or something like that...
learning every minute...

I use 5 M-200's in my set-up. The advantage for me is that I can split them between two racks with the stereo pair near the front speakers and the other three on a seperate rack. It also allows me to only run the front two channels when I listen to stereo and only fire up the center and surround channels when necessary. Not really a big deal compared to using a 755. the other reason I am using the M-200's is because I received my first one free in the Outlaw's contest laugh

I think that there are at least a few folks like me that started with two for thier two-channel rig and have moved up from there. Can't beat the "grow-with-me" concept. I don't really know many folks that need more than 200watts per channel, anyway.
Oh- and don't forget, Outlaw's customer service is awesome.

I use six M200s in a tri-amp configuration. The M200s have been perfect for me.

I have 7 M200s I purchased last month for about $239 each. I got the Middle Atlantic slim 5 29U rack and the rack ears for the NHT E-1 ($25 ea.) which fit the M200s perfectly (www.onecall.com).

They really sound fantastic but to be perfectly honest my favorite thing is how cool they look in the rack. I have them installed Left, Right, Center, spacer, Left Surround, Right Surround, spacer, Left Rear, Right Rear.

Good luck,

I purchased the 7 M 200s on the buy 6 get one free plus free shipping deal. I just couldn't resist. I am very happy with the amps. I added a 950 later.

Pluses for the M200
7 amps at 18 pounds each, versus 90 pounds for the 770.
You can split them up
Individual power supplies

Negatives for the M200
7 individual plugs--if you're a panamax/brickwall type of person, this is going to cost you a bundle.
They take up a lot of space, I have two stacks of three with space above them. And my 7th shares some space with my subwoofer amp.

They are imported vs. made in USA. It has been my experience that companies make their top-of-the-line products at home, and are willing to import their other products. This may be only a perception issue.

Financial difference:
You can get 7 of these amps for less than a 770. That seems counter-intuitive to me. With 7 cases, 7 power supplies, 7 power cords, it should be more expensive than a 770. Before the Outlaws did the deal that I jumped on they were more expensive than a 770. I would guess that the M200s don't sell as well as the 770, and that the Outlaws have to be willing to accept a lower profit margin on the M200.

I think you'd have been happy either way you went. When is the combo set to arrive?
