Has RR2150 been shelved?

Has RR2150 been shelved? - 03/24/05 12:58 PM

The Outlaws have been working on this two channel receiver for two years now. At this point I'm wondering if it's gone the way of the internet radio product...

Anyone?

It's hard to say, since we haven't heard anything new about the RR2150 in a while. I suspect that the RR2150 is still in the works, although it has clearly hit more than its share of snags. I don't think it's going to end up with the same fate as the IR1000 - that product was actually almost ready for production when issues with streaming radio and royalties put a significant dent in the market for it, whereas the market for a stereo receiver isn't going away any time soon.

I got impatient and emailed the Outlaws a couple of weeks ago asking for more info on the RR2150. Scott replied and said some news would be coming out soon. Not sure what that means, but I'm waiting.....

The Outlaw's concept of time seems to be on a geologic scale rather than a human scale. wink I'm not sure "soon" clarifies or further clouds our understanding... and don't get me started on the 1070!

Yup, some of us have been waiting on both the RR2150 and the 1070 for quite some time now. I can't believe that the 990, a product that we didn't even know existed until Sunday, has a forum within a day of its announcement but the 1070 still has nothing. Didn't we see pictures of the prototype almost a year ago? To me, this is a subtle sign of just how far behind the 1070 is. And that is unfortunate.

Here's to hoping we see it in 05.

Hello, RR2150 fans. The outlaws did have an RR2150 at the the HE show in NY today, So I guess it's not dead yet. The unit was just sitting there like a lost child. There did not seem to be much interest in it from the Outlaw fans. All the fanfare was for the 990. Although there was not much new for the 1070 I think the RR2150 will be far behind the 1070.

arica9 came away with the impression that the 2150 was not too far from shipping. ScottH said it was definitely due this year (which is somewhat open-ended,since we've got seven months left in the year).

We can check in with others who attended but my recollection is that the RR2150 is not far off from hitting the market. Granted, there was alot going on and I might have missed this but.....
Also when I was in the room twice, there was afair amount of hovering around the RR. Alongside mtself there were a couple of guys who said wrap it up I;m ready to take one.
Anybody remember more exact info about this?

I took some notes when Peter was speaking, because I knew I wouldn't remember exactly what he said (anything in parenthesis is added so you can understand my gibberish):

1070 Hardware (is) production ready, 2-3 weeks more for the software (working out bugs).

2150 (The machine in the room is a) true working sample. Beta (testing begins) in 2 weeks. Now 2x90w 8ohm, 2x140w into 4 ohms (while it was delayed they upped the size of the amps). Built in bass management, electronic x-over.

If I recall correctly, the 1070 has been through beta testing. They are working out the final bugs and then it should go into production. The 2150 is behind that schedule. The feeling I got was by expected by year-end.

As I noted in the other thread, the 1070 and the 990 have extremely similar face plates, and share the same buttons. Perhaps they should be called the 1070 and 970 or the 1090 and 990? If the insides are like the outsides, these two pieces share a lot of circuitry. With the end of the 1050, and the calls for a replacement to the 950 (and if my presumptions are any where near correct), the development of a new surround engine was paramount to Outlaw. I also was listening to a conversation between an attendee and Scott, where they were discussing how it takes more work to get a receiver in perfect working order than a pre/pro (which makes sense since a receiver is a pre/pro plus a built in amp).

Re: Has RR2150 been shelved? - 04/30/05 10:14 AM

According to the Model 990 FAQ , the 1070 has been developed exclusively for Outlaw (similar to the original 1050), so it and the 990 presumably only share aesthetics (since the 990 is based on the Sherwood P-965 design). That may help explain why the 990 is getting out of the gate a bit ahead of the 1070 - they had to start with a blank sheet of paper on the 1070, instead of an existing platform. I'd figured that the 990 numbering matches up with the 790 amp (since the two share - or will share, in the 790's case) balanced I/O.

Leave it to gonk to go and find facts to prove or, in this case disprove, a supposition. smile Thanks, I stand corrected.

the 2150 was playing a record (anyone ele old enough to remember those? smile ) and Peter had it actually cranked it up to demo for the first minute or so of the two demo sessions I sat through. It's working and, I thought, is imnpressive.

I missed the estimate on the schedule, but Peter did say that the 2150 is "currently in safety testing & beta testing will be next". It's not dead. smile

g'night,
