I was one of the very first to purchase (pre-purchase actually) the 975.

When I'm watching a movie or listening to music, in my HT I like to check the volume level from time to time - scene to scene, on audio - track to track. I like to check that often.

It seems as if the volume level disappears after a few seconds on the 975. I have never seen this on any other receiver or preamp, and never imagined a pre or pre/pro that does not display the volume - my trusty Outlaw 950 certainly does not do this.

How can I make the volume level remain constantly displayed? In the old days I could look at the knob and see the approximate volume level, or every other pre/pro constantly displays the volume level, but with this unit unless I turn the volume up or down I have no idea where the volume level is set.

Determining volume level is so important to me, that I regret buying the 975 and have rarely used it, it has mostly sat in the corner since purchase. My original Outlaw Pre/pro (950) gets 99% of the use. I literally dusted off the 975 last night and I'm giving it another look, but the lack of determining volume level smacked me in the face immediately.

Hopefully this can be changed and/or I'm simply overlooking something so I can use the 975. Hopefully this was one of the things that got upgraded I can't be the only person who wishes to check volume levels.

Please help!

Thx Xeno. I'd really like a way to see the volume level without having to increase or decrease the volume, I glance at it often.

Hey, BTW, I put the 975 in my rack for the first time. I thought it sounded good on CDs I was listening to. Then I pulled it out and put the 950 back in... WAIT, WHAT?!? Jeeze is is just me or does the 975 sound much clearer and cleaner than the 950??

It might just be in my head.

Anyhow, I hope someone from Outlaw will respond to my original question/comment.

Cain,

It is not your imagination. The chip sets in the 975 are 10 years more advanced than those in the 950. It is not even close in performance.

More interestingly, we have had numerous reports from several 990 owners who made the switch to the 975 because they needed HDMI connectivity. They too immediately heard a difference in clarity.

On a personal level, when I swapped out my 990 for a 975, my wife (who hears better than I) instantly heard a positive difference.

Thx Peter.

Is there any way we can perhaps get an option to show the volume level all the time, like other pre and pre/pros?? Or perhaps you can make it so that I can press a button on the remote, and check the volume level without increasing or decreasing it?

The OSD on the 975 was frozen a long time ago so it is not possible to change it.

When you hit the volume button to turn on the display, does the volume change or does the display just come on?

Excellent question. It changes the volume.

I would hit the volume up and then down to turn on the display and correct the issue as a work around. Can you display the volume on the TV and leave the volume off on the 975?
