Just got my SR5007 and found that the GUI menu, used for all configuration and setup, only works over HDMI. My TV only has component (yeah, it's older), and I can't see how to use the display on the device to set things up. The manual says to see the display, but all it says is: GUI Menu -> Look at your TV.

Yes, if I had another TV, or even a computer monitor, with HDMI, I could use that. The HDMI to DVI adapters I have don't work with it.

The remote on for my Marantz MA700 also doesn't work, but maybe that will come once I can configure the receiver.

Thanks for any advice.

You could try using an hdmi to component converter. They are currently on sale at svideo.com for $69. I have purchased from this vendor before and am very happy with their customer service. Good luck.

Thanks Rangler. I considered a converter, but reading reviews on them didn't inspire confidence for this purpose, especially after my HDMI to DVI converter didn't work.

Mr. Irwin,
I think you might be able to use the "monitor out" for set up purposes of course it won't overlay for adjustments on the fly and you would have to change inputs on the TV while setting it up. But I could also be wrong.

The composite monitor out didn't work either. It seems it's HDMI or nothing.

Outlaws, that would be good to note. And if you have any suggestions for remoting on with the Marantz MA700, that would be great, too. I've tried both the remote out and the 12v DC trigger, and monitor out to the video signal remote in.

Does your TV have DVI inputs? My Samsung has DVI and I used that for a few years with my 990. Seems like a strange setup for Marantz to use. Maybe a call to Outlaw will help.

No DVI on the TV. It's a Pioneer Elite 710 (13 years old). Will contact Outlaw directly.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

It is unlikely that the TV can display a signal better tha 480P without DVI input. Sounds like you have the basis to justify a new TV. A win all around!!

Outlaw confirmed that HDMI is needed for SR5007 setup to work. They're still finding out about the MA700 control issue. If that doesn't work, I guess it would justify amp(s) too. Now, if I can just convince my bank account of that...
