I'm pretty set on a 7125 purchase in the near future, and had a couple of questions for anyone who might have the answers:

1) How's the heat output on the 7125? Currently I have only the back available for ventilation with an AVR planning to sit on top of the 7125 and cabinet pretty tight (1") on each side.

2) Speaking of stacking the AVR, it looks like it will be a Onk 3008 or a Denon 4311. One weighs almost 50 lbs, and the other 35. Will this be too much for the 7125 chassis?

I am pretty sure the weight will be okay. With the 4311 being an AVR it will put out more heat than an AVP. Just curious why you want so many channels of amp? Have you checked out the same companies processors only? You can also install a small computer fan to move more air past the equipment. I have mine in a closed cabinet and set the Onkyo 886 on a shelf above the 7125 with about 6 inches of clearance. The fan moves enough air that the 7125 never gets hot but it does get warm to the touch. I also only run 5 channels out so two channels aren't doing much.

I'm 100% Home Theater and plan on running a 9.x setup in a 6000 cu. ft. room. I probably only need 3/5 channels of amplification since the heights and rears are rarely used and can be powered by the AVR, but the outlaw 5 channel amplifier options are more expensive than the 7125. 9-channel pre/pro's are more expensive than the Denon 4311 or the Onkyo 3008 and then i'd have to find 9 channels of amplification. Blows out my (roughly) 2k budget.

I'm leaning towards the Onkyo 3008, but it sounds like I'll need some clearance on top of the 7125. Fans are problematic... Noise, turning them on/off, open cabinet at ground level with a 2-year old who often breaks into the media room.

I have a USB powered fan that is plugged into my satellite receiver for power. I placed it at the top of my cabinet so it draws air from the bottom and exhausts out the top. If everything is off I can just barely hear it. The 7500 is more $$$ than a 7125 because it is a balanced design and is a beast. Emotiva has some 3 and 5 channel amps I think that might hit your wallet less.

Ended up with 3x 2200's, B-Stock, $250 shipped each with full warranty. Pumped.

Too bad you missed the recent 7125 sale price. Would have gotten 7 channels for about $150 more and saved 3 pounds of weight. I would be careful if you plan on stacking the AVR on the model 2200s as they are not desined for that much weight and they will need some space for cooling.

Yea, missed the spring sale, but this should work out. Score more power for my LCR channels, kinda working along the lines of your Emotiva XPA-3 or 5 suggestion in your second post.

Thanks for the weight tip. My A/V cabinent is open in the back and front, and plan on giving the 3 stacked 2200's about 2 inches of height clearance. Hopefully that's enough.

2 inches on top of the stack, without some sort of forced ventilation, might be pushing the limit as to longevity. Look at getting a small computer fan and moving the air out of your cabinet.

This is a note from the 2200 manual:
When positioning the amplifier in its final location, make certain that it has adequate
ventilation on all sides, as well as on the top and bottom. In particular, it is a good idea to provide at least two or three inches of room above the amplifier for air circulation. DO NOT place CDs, DVDs, videotapes, owner’s manuals, or other paper on top of, or beneath, the unit, or in-between multiple amplifiers in a stack. This will block airflow, causing heat build-up, degraded performance, and may create a possible fire hazard. If the unit is to be enclosed in a cabinet or rack, make certain there is adequate air circulation. Sufficient ventilation should be provided so that hot air may exit, and cool air may enter the cabinet. In some instances, a small cooling fan may be required to insure adequate air flow through the cabinet. If you are in doubt as to the ventilation requirements for your specific installation, please contact us. Also, do not place the amplifier directly on a carpeted surface, as this will inhibit airflow underneath as well as create a potential fire hazard.

Ran the three 2200's stacked through a movie last night at -10 volume in my room and they didn't even feel warmer than body temperature. Clearly i'm not requiring much from them. Going to throw the next shelf on them with about 2" of clearance, but I don't think they'll need even that with an open back and front.

Question about the 7125.
I am helping a friend of mine do a dedicated HT room. Dimensions are 30' long, 10' wide with 7' ceiling. I made a suggestionn to him to purchase my Outlaw 990 as soon as the 978 comes out and suggested him purchasing the 7125 amp.
Do you think this is NOT a good match. I do not want to give my friend wrong advice.
He wants the ability to use two subs also.
