After having the 990/7700 for 18 months I finally get around to asking this question. Is there a "quick" solution for stereo playback without using the sub or do I have to go into the OSD and disable the sub? I like the sub but have a friend who wants to hear "true stereo" thru my system.

If the mains are set to "large" then stereo sources will be played back without the sub. This is only a good full-time setup if you have fairly full-range mains, but if your mains can't get close to the bottom then it may be worthwile to leave the sub in the mix for music anyway.

Thanks gonk. Pretty much what I figured.

Not something I would do full time but when this fellow shows up next time I'll humor him.

What I do is is just switch the sub itself into the standby mode.
That way you are only hearing you main speakers.
Just a thought.

Using the OSD and changing the setup might be the easiest. Or there is using the 990's 'bypass' mode, easily accessable on the remote and no OSD needed, which will send a full range signal to both mains and the sub - just keep your sub powered off.

"Bypass" mode will only send a full-range signal to your mains if they are set to "large." If they are set to "small," there is still some type of filtering applied. As far as I can tell, it's a firmware bug, and is being worked.
