howdy. i tried hooking up my apple ibook to listen to some internet radio stations and could not get the 2150 to play the music, although i could hear it on the ibook. is there something special i need to do to get the USB connection to work - and please do not tell me the 2150 is not apple compatible.

thanks, kirk

tried a (slightly used) external DAC (from a highly recognizable and reputable firm) in comparison to the outlaw rr2150 USB port. after a few minutes back and forth, I had to conclude that an external DAC is not worth buying for me - I will stick to the built-in USB port on the amp, which sounds much better (presumably because it means fewer cables are all in all). the external DAC was fine on the headphones in my office, had more detail and more oomph than the little portable headphone amp I also own - but at home, the built-in USB port on the outlaw rr2150 performs really well!

Does anyone know what DAC chip the RR2150 is using?

Thanks

I've not ever heard, but I recall seeing somewhere that whatever solution is being used is part of the chip that provides the USB interface.

Turnstyle's post in your link appears to confirm what I was thinking. Here's the quote that he received from Outlaw back in November:
Quote:
The USB input uses the Micronas chip, one of the very best available. The DAC for the USB is self contained on the Micronas chip. It offers:

-Single-chip, USB specification 2.0 compliant, stereo audio D/A converter

-Supports up to 24-bit playback

-Independent adaptive sample rates of 6.4 to 48kHz for USB playback

-THD better than -90dB and SNR of typ. 96dB for D/A converters
On other words, the USB input goes something like this: USB connector on rear panel, Micronas chip, then stereo analog into the pre-amp section. The Micronas chip is the USB port as far as a computer is concerned, and it accepts PCM stereo over USB then converts it to stereo analog.

Hooked up my daughter's laptop to the USB port. Had a few hicups the first time, and since the manual didn't have a lot of detail, I thought I would pass these on.

1) Had to add the RR2150 manually (under Windows XP). The device was actually not a RR2150 but showed up as a separate USB sound card.

2) ITunes needs to be shut down and restarted when the device changes.

Very impressed with the sound quality of files ripped from CD using Apple's lossless compression. The quality of items purchased from Apple (128KB compression) was terrible.

Haven't done a Sunday morning USB check in a while. Enjoy.
