I think most current "bookshelf" speakers are actually designed to work best vertically - better phase relationships between tweeter and woofer and better stereo imaging. I hope somebody corrects me if there are exceptions. Of course coaxial designs can ignore orientation.

I'm using Sonus Faber Concertos (Home Version, 6 Ohm nominal). These speakers were originally driven by a Parasound HCA-1500(215W into 8 Ohms), then by my Outlaw 755(200W) in my HT system. When I moved them to two channel duty, an Audio Analogue Primo Settanta(70W) was first and then replaced by the 2150. The RR2150 drives these speakers cleanly as loud as I have cared to play them without a bit of strain and the sound is awesome.

I just changed the set up using my Outlaw 2150. It is now in a bedroom that is a music/computer room that holds my drumkit and recording equiptment. I am now using the Outlaw with a pair of Monitor Audio Radius 90's and it's great! I'm also using a Denon Turntable, Sony Cassette Deck, Philips CD Player. The room is small and the speakers work great with the Outlaw. I have two other systems and one consists of the Nakamichi RE 10 Receiver, Oppo 970 DVD/CD Player, JVC 5 disc CD changer, Hughes AK 500 Retriever, Sony HI Fi VHS player and a pair of Monitor Audio Silver RS 6 Loudspeakers and the Athena AS-P 4000 Subwoofer which is in my den. The other system is in my livingroom and it consists of a NAD C720BEE Receiver, NAD C521 BEE CD Player, Oppo 981 DVD/CD player, Hughes AK-500 Retriever, Revel F 12 Concerto Loudspeakers with the Athena AS-P 4100 Subwoofer. I can't say enough about how great the Oppo stuff is, really a true bargain.
