As you have read here in past updates, the RR 2150 Retro Receiver has been a great success, far exceeding our initial sales forecasts. The incredible demand for this unique product, a series of parts shortages, and problems with the original production facility made it necessary for us to temporarily suspend production and move to a new facility. The delay has been slightly longer than we expected, but it was something that had to be done in order to assure long-term availability as well as the product quality you expect from the Outlaws. The elegant metal work that is key to the RR 2150’s appearance was a major contributor to this delay, as we had to create entirely new tools so that the parts used by the new factory could meet our quality standards.

The good news is that the first pilot run from the new factory is complete, and the samples are at the Hideout undergoing hardware testing and performance verification. It will take another week or so to completely validate the product and give the go-ahead for a re-start of production. Once that is done, we will ship the complete first production run to our warehouse via airfreight so that we can resume RR 2150 deliveries as soon as possible.

The bottom line: We expect to begin shipping the RR 2150 to those with back-orders or reservations by mid-October. That date is also key for those who haven’t ordered an RR 2150 yet. Due to the increased cost of metal parts for the front panel, chassis and heat sink, as well as other commodity-based components, the RR 2150’s price will increase to $649 for orders placed after shipments resume (edit-and the RR2150 is back in stock). We had originally scheduled this increase to take place when production starts. However so that everyone has a fair warning, we’re holding off the price increase until the shipments actually begin. If you’ve thought about ordering this award-winning receiver, place your order NOW to get one at the introductory $599 price. As always, we do not charge your credit card until just before your order ships.

For those who have not yet seen the October issue of The Absolute Sound, the RR 2150 has been named as one of their “Editor’s Choice” picks against some famous and more expensive competition. The editors at that magazine are music fanatics, and this honor is further evidence that the RR 2150 is, indeed, “The last great stereo receiver”.
